Neck Pain

Anyone who has suffered from neck pain knows how debilitating it can be. A slight movement of the neck can be incredibly painful, especially in the acute phase. As the condition becomes more chronic, neck pain becomes stiffer and more painful, with a dull ache. The neck is one of the most mobile structures in our body, making it susceptible to injury. There are many types of conditions that affect the neck, such as whiplash, cervical torticollis, muscle and joint sprains, disc protrusions and nerve compression.

Causes of neck pain:

Because of the many types of neck pain, there are many potential causes. Here are the most common causes of neck pain that we see at Chiropractic Center Nicolas FREY DC:

Poor posture/spinal alignment.
Prolonged sitting/inactive sitting
Car accidents (whiplash)
Ergonomic problems, e.g. when sleeping
Sports injuries and trauma
Overuse/repetitive strain injuries
Underlying disease or pathology (rare)

What is the most common cause of neck pain?

Once any underlying disease or problem has been ruled out, the most common cause of neck pain is mechanical. This means that the joints of the spine do not move as freely as they are designed to. This causes pain locally, can contribute to spinal degeneration, muscle spasm, disc formation and irritation of the nerves surrounding the neck.

Poor posture and spinal alignment are the most common cause of neck pain. Poor alignment puts unnecessary pressure on the joints of the cervical spine (neck).

How can chiropractic help neck pain?

There can be many factors in the cause of your neck pain, so it is essential that we provide an accurate diagnosis.

During this examination, we will perform a series of orthopaedic, neurological, postural and musculoskeletal tests to find out what the problem is. Once we have all this information, we will inform you of our findings.

From there we will create a personalised treatment plan designed to help you recover naturally. Our treatment approach will include spinal adjustments, adjustments to the joints of the body, especially the lower extremities, muscle work, plus the prescription of rehabilitation exercises and stretches designed to improve your posture.

In the case of neck pain, we will also examine the lifestyle factors that have led to the injury and help you make the necessary modifications to prevent future cases.

We use a variety of different chiropractic techniques, from manual adjustment to gentle, low-force techniques. Depending on your needs and your body type, we will provide you with a treatment style that suits your body.
